Distyle in antis. The plan shows the sheer size and complexity of this distyle in antis tomb. Especially noteworthy is the mix of stone burial benches, arched burial niches (arcosolia) and burial cavities (loculi, kokhim). Burial benches were widely used in the First Temple period (eighth and seventh centuries B.C.), while arcosolia and loculi were typical of the Second Temple period (first century B.C. to first century A.D.). The distyle in antis tomb likely dates to the First Temple period and was modified for further use during the Second Temple period.
