A unique massive double wall fortification system was discovered at Yoque’am in strata from the 9th–8th centuries B.C. Built over what may have been a Solomonic citadel, the double wall is not divided internally, a feature which distinguishes it from the earlier double-walled casemates, which are partitioned into interior rooms. The casemate system was used in the previous century at nearby Megiddo.
