A noblewoman or goddess, ninth- to eighth-century B.C., displays some of the fashions of her day. On her head she wears a crown and around her neck a heavy necklace. Her eyes are filled with a black substance. This piece, found in the Judean hills between Hebron and Beer-Sheva, may be made from bone and not ivory. Without a laboratory analysis it is not always possible to distinguish between the two.
