Biblical maps, like this detail from the Oxford Bible Atlas, third edition (p. 95) contain undisputed identifications, as well as identifications that scholars still question. For example, biblical Ebenezer is shown, upper left, at Izbet Sartah, a site excavated by Moshe Kochavi and proposed by him to be Ebenezer. However, Max Miller and other scholars disagree or are more tentative. Miller also questions the Oxford atlas’s identifications of biblical Aphek (Tell Ras el-‘Ain), just west of Izbet Sartah, and biblical Heshbon (Hesban), east of the Dead Sea.
