Evidence of thriving industry at Samaria predates the palace construction in the ninth century B.C.E. Bowl-like indentations, rock-cut channels, wine and oil presses, and grape-treading areas indicate that the site was a prosperous commercial enterprise before Omri purchased the land for his new capital.
