Sir George Grove (shown here), famed for Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians, played a key role in the dispatch of a survey team to Jerusalem in 1864. The team was led by Captain Charles Wilson. Wilson’s team produced a map of the city so accurate that it remained useful well into the 20th century.
