This is in marked contrast to the absence of any index whatsoever in another recent monumental publication, the six-volume Anchor Bible Dictionary. I called attention to this in my review of it in the BAR 18:05 (see Books in Brief), but since then have realized that this deficiency is even more serious than I thought. I am surprised that we have nor yet had any word from Doubleday that they are preparing an additional volume with appropriate indexes and other reference material. The entire scholarly community eagerly awaits such a communication, which will, we are confident, eventually come.
