WISE WOMEN. Nava Panitz-Cohen (left) and Naama Yahalom-Mack (right), both from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, co-direct the excavations at Abel Beth Maacah in northern Israel, together with Robert Mullins of Azusa Pacific University. Although a few women archaeologists have historically held places of prominence in Levantine archaeology, the proportion of women directing excavations and holding other leadership roles has increased significantly in recent years.
