CARMEN NAVÍO SOTO / CERRO DEL VILLAR ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT

BUSTLING TRADE CENTER. This artistic recreation of the ancient town of Cerro del Villar shows a thriving community readily accessible by water from both the sea and sites upstream. This harbor town developed deep ties to neighboring sites and peoples as well as to the region’s natural resources, while also maintaining strong connections with the Phoenician heartland far to the east on the Levantine coast. The settlement was a dense, well-planned grid of streets featuring large multi-room residences and extensive commercial spaces.
