TRADING SPACES. Consistent with building patterns at other Phoenician sites in the region, the typical house at Cerro del Villar had multiple rooms, such as those shown being excavated here, situated around a central courtyard. The rooms within such dwellings were used for both domestic and commercial purposes and included dedicated spaces for activities such as metalworking and pottery production. At its peak, the site had a bustling economy driven by these activities, as well as by a vibrant trade in raw materials and finished products.
