STYLED STATUES. Some Ammonite statues represent women. Their fixed and standardized appearance suggests they were decorative elements attached to the window balustrades of royal buildings. By contrast, statues depicting nonroyal men (shown here) are far more varied in appearance, showing different hairstyles and facial expressions, and were therefore likely intended to be realistic depictions of wealthy Ammonite elites.
