EVERYDAY IMPLEMENTS. Biblical archaeology has gradually shifted away from exploring the lives and experiences of privileged elites—whether kings, priests, or scribes—toward examining the more mundane activities of village life, such as grinding grain on a stone like the one shown here or spinning thread using a spindle whorl. This shift in focus has yielded a wide variety of insights about everyday life in the biblical world, providing rich context and clarity to the biblical texts and the environment within which they emerged.
