APPROACHING THE TEMPLE. This artistic reconstruction captures the landscape and topography of Jerusalem during the late Second Temple period. On the right, the Kidron Valley runs along the eastern side of the Temple Mount and the walled City of David. It then meets the Hinnom and Tyropoeon Valleys at the city’s southern gate. Inside the gate, ancient pilgrims came to the Siloam Pool and then continued on the stepped road ascending along the Tyropoeon Valley up to the Ophel and the Temple complex.
