PILLARED HOUSE. Immediately south of the temple at Tell Qasile is the town’s residential and industrial quarter. Private dwellings here offer insights into daily life, further confirming the site’s mixed culture and illustrating change over time. Early buildings included features typical of Philistine houses, such as a main hall with benches and a raised hearth at its center. Later structures (pictured here), however, were mostly variations of the so-called four-room house, featuring a main space (often divided by pillars, hence, “pillared house”) flanked by two adjoining long rooms.
