CURIOUS KOURION. A prominent Cypriot city, Kourion boasted impressive public buildings and sanctuaries. Recent excavations of an elite Roman residence in Kourion revealed an extensive rebuilding program dating to the early second century CE. Curiously, many architectural elements used in that reconstruction consisted of spolia, or repurposed building stones (shown here), which likely came from the Apollo temple or other monumental buildings destroyed during the Diaspora Revolt.
