MAGNIFICENT MILLO. For millennia, people have found innovative ways to access the Gihon Spring, Jerusalem’s main water source. During the Middle Bronze Age, the system consisted of tunnels and fortifications leading from the walled city to a pool and the spring, protected by a tower. The system underwent renovations in the ninth century BCE and more renovations and extensions in the eighth century. The plan shown here identifies the various features associated with this complex water and fortification system.
