POURING FOR PURITY. The lavish residence where the inscribed mug was found featured a remarkably well-preserved mikveh (ritual pool) with steps leading down into a basin for immersion. It’s possible that the inscribed mug was used in water purification rituals, or it might even have been used to carry ritually pure water from the home’s cistern to the mikveh.
