VICTORY PROCLAIMED. The Romans proudly celebrated their conquest of Jerusalem and Judea after the First Jewish Revolt. Following Jerusalem’s destruction in AD 70, the Roman emperors issued coins that featured bound and despondent Judean captives under a palm tree, along with the Latin words Iudaea Capta (“Judea Captured”).
