Relief from the Arch of Titus

ERICH LESSING/ART RESOURCE, NY

VICTORY PROCLAIMED. The Romans proudly celebrated their conquest of Jerusalem and Judea after the First Jewish Revolt. This relief from the famous Arch of Titus in Rome (above) shows Roman soldiers triumphantly parading sacred objects seized from the Jerusalem Temple—including trumpets, the showbread table, and the menorah—through the streets of Rome.
