Claire Epstein

Claire Epstein (d. 2000) was sent to survey the Golan in 1967. In 1973, she came across Chalcolithic culture and almost single-handedly brought to light the remarkable civilization that flourished on the Golan 6,000 years ago.  She is the author of The Chalcolithic Culture of the Golan (Israel Antiquities Authority, 1998) and recipient of the 1995 Israel Prize for archaeology.
