Hartmut Stegemann

Hartmut Stegemann (d. 2005) was a Professor of New Testament Sciences, the Head of the Department of Studies in Ancient Judaism, and Director of the Qumran Research Centre at Georg-August University in Göttingen. He received his Doctor of Divinity degree in Old Testament studies and his Ph.D. in oriental studies and history of religions. He published more than 35 articles on the Dead Sea Scrolls and on the historical Jesus. He is the author of The Origins of the Qumran Community (1971) and The Essenes, Qumran, John the Baptist, and Jesus (1993).
