The Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem has appointed Jamie Fraser as the institute’s new director. His tenure began on October 4, 2023.
Fraser completed his doctoral work at the University of Sydney in 2016. Two years later, the published version of his thesis, Dolmens in the Levant, won the prestigious G. Ernest Wright Award from the American Society of Overseas Research. Prior to coming to the Albright, he served as curator for the Ancient Levant and Anatolia at the British Museum.
Fraser’s archaeological fieldwork has spanned the globe, including projects in Jordan, Syria, Israel, Iraq, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kashmir, Greece, Cambodia, Australia, and the Solomon Islands. Most recently, he directed a British Museum dig investigating a major Early Bronze Age (c. 2500 BCE) olive oil production facility at Khirbet Umm al-Ghozlan in Jordan.
