What Is It?

D. (a horse blinder)

Dating to the eighth century B.C.E., this ivory horse blinder, or blinker, from ancient Nimrud would have been attached (as part of a pair) to a horse’s bridle, thus preventing the horse from seeing to its side and getting distracted or spooked in crowded areas.
