Gabriel Barkay (“Royal Palace, Royal Portrait?”) is a senior lecturer in the Department of Archaeology and Land of Israel Studies at Bar-Ilan University. He has participated in numerous digs during a career spanning nearly four decades, including excavations at Lachish, Susa (Iran), Ketef Hinnom in Jerusalem and Tel Zayit. Currently he is overseeing the sifting of the soil removed from the Temple Mount. In 1996 Barkay was honored with the Jerusalem Prize, in recognition of outstanding achievements in the archaeology of Jerusalem.

Oren Gutfeld (“Hyrcania’s Mysterious Tunnels,”) teaches at the Institute of Archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He contributed to the final report on Nahman Avigad’s excavations in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem and has excavated Ramla, Herodium and Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee.

Shmuel Ahituv (“Did God Really Have a Wife?”) is professor of Bible and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer Sheva.

David Ussishkin (“Another View,”) recently retired from his position as professor of archaeology at Tel Aviv University. He directed the excavations at Lachish for more than 20 years and currently serves as dig director, with Israel Finkelstein, of the Megiddo Expedition.
