Boaz Zissu (“This Place Is for the Birds”) is a lecturer in the Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University. One of his specialties is the archaeology of Jerusalem and its surroundings during the Second Temple, Mishnah and Talmud periods. He is currently directing field surveys in the Judean hills and foothills and working on the publication of the excavations (1999–2001 seasons) at Horvat ‘Ethri in the Judean foothills.

Amos Frumkin (“How Lot’s Wife Became a Pillar of Salt”) is associate professor of geography at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and currently serves as director of the university’s Cave Research Unit. He has studied and explored much of Israel’s cavernous underworld, including most recently Jerusalem’s Siloam Tunnel (see “Sound Proof,” BAR 34:05).

Raymond Westbrook (“Good as His Word”) is professor of ancient law and Assyriology at the Johns Hopkins University. He is a leading authority on the relationship between ancient Near Eastern and Classical law and the origins of diplomacy. His numerous publications include A History of Ancient Near Eastern Law, a seminal work that covers all known legal systems of the region from the beginning of legal records until the Hellenistic period (28th–4th centuries B.C.).
