Eilat Mazar (“The Wall That Nehemiah Built” of the Hebrew University’s Institute of Archaeology, has been excavating in the City of David since 2005. She has also been publishing the final report of the excavations south of the Temple Mount that were led by her grandfather Benjamin Mazar.

Jas´ Elsner (“Double Identity” ) is Humfry Payne Senior Research Fellow at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and visiting professor of art history at the University of Chicago. His research focuses on Roman art in the late antique period—especially the art of the religious cults of the Roman Empire, including Judaism and Christianity. His most recent book is Roman Eyes: Visuality and Subjectivity in Art and Text (Princeton, 2007).

Dan Levene (“Rare Magic Inscription on Human Skull” )is senior lecturer on history at the School of Humanities, University of Southampton, England. He is the author of A Corpus of Magic Bowls: Incantation Texts in Jewish Aramaic from Late Antiquity (Kegan Paul, 2003) and Curse or Blessing, What’s in the Magic Bowl? (Parkes Institute, 2002).
