André Lemaire (“Solomon & Sheba, Inc.”) is professor of Hebrew and Aramaic philology and epigraphy in the department of Historical and Philological Sciences at the École Pratique des Hautes Études at the Sorbonne in Paris. He has worked for more than 35 years in the fields of Northwest Semitic epigraphy, archaeology, ancient Hebrew literature and history and has published more than ten books and 400 articles on those subjects.
Shlomo Moussaieff (“The ‘New Cleopatra’ and the Jewish Tax”) is an antiquities collector who owns perhaps the largest and most important collection of Biblical artifacts in private hands. He received an honorary doctorate from Bar-Ilan University in Tel Aviv and was honored by scholars with a festschrift Shlomo: Studies in Epigraphy, Iconography, History and Archaeology in Honor of Shlomo Moussaieff, edited by Robert Deutsch.
Archaeologist, epigrapher and antiquities dealer Robert Deutsch (“Roman Coins Boast ‘Judaea Capta’”) is a member of the editorial board of the Israel Numismatic Journal. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books documenting artifacts in private collections. He has fulfilled all the requirements for a Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University.
Martin Goodman (“Under the Influence”) is professor of Jewish studies in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford. He has written extensively on the political, social and religious history of the Jews of the Roman Empire. His most recent book, Rome and Jerusalem: The Clash of Ancient Civilizations (Knopf, 2007), explores the causes and consequences of the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E.
