Yitzhak Magen (“Bells, Pendants, Snakes and Stones”) is head archaeological officer for the civil administration of Judea and Samaria. As Israel’s chief archaeologist for the West Bank, he has directed numerous excavations, including the Samaritan site of Mt. Gerizim. More recently with Yuval Peleg, Magen excavated at Qumran, the site usually associated with the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Edward L. Greenstein (“Texts from Ugarit Solve Biblical Puzzles”) is professor of Bible, director of the Institute for Jewish Biblical Interpretation and Straus Distinguished Scholar at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. He taught at Tel Aviv University and the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. Greenstein has edited the Journal of the Ancient Near Eastern Society since 1974 and has published widely in the fields of Biblical and ancient Semitic studies. His current projects include commentaries on Job, Lamentations and Ruth, and books on Canaanite wisdom literature and reader theory in Biblical narrative.
