Simo Parpola (“The Magi and the Star”) is professor of Assyriology and director of the State Archives of Assyria Centre of Excellence at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He has also taught at the University of Chicago and published numerous books and articles on a wide range of topics, including Mesopotamian science and astrology, Assyrian history, royal ideology and religion and ancient Near Eastern geography.
