A professor of classics at the University of California, Davis, David A. Traill is the author of Schliemann of Troy: Treasure and Deceit (St. Martin’s Press, 1995) and co-author (with William M. Calder) of Myth, Scandal, and History: The Heinrich Schliemann Controversy and a First Edition of the Mycaenean Diary (Wayne State Univ. Press, 1986).
Igor Bogdanov, who frequently writes about Heinrich Schliemann and the history of St. Petersburg, is the author of Grand Hotel: Europe in St. Petersburg (Vienna, 1996), which was published in English. He also translates English-language works into Russian, including books by Roald Dahl, James Thurber and George Kennan.
The author of Finding the Walls of Troy: Frank Calvert and Heinrich Schliemann at Hisarlik (Univ. of California Press, 1999), Susan Heuck Allen teaches archaeology at Smith College and is a visiting scholar in the Classics Department at Brown University. She is currently editing Excavating Our Past: Perspectives on the History of the Archaeological Institute of America (forthcoming). In 1997, she swam the Hellespont (see Destinations, AO 02:01).
James P. Allen is the Curator of Egyptian Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
