David Ussishkin Receives 2014 Percia Schimmel Award

David Ussishkin has won the prestigious Percia Schimmel Award conferred by the Israel Museum for “distinguished contribution to archaeology in Eretz Israel and the Lands of the Bible.”
Ussishkin, professor emeritus of archaeology at Tel Aviv University, has directed or codirected excavations at a number of important sites in Israel, including Lachish, Jezreel, Megiddo and a survey of the Judahite monumental necropolis at Silwan in Jerusalem. He has published extensively on these excavations as well as on other subjects in Near Eastern and Biblical archaeology. Ussishkin has been a member of BAR’s editorial advisory board since the magazine’s inception in 1975.
Past winners of the Percia Schimmel Award include BAR authors Nahman Avigad, Frank Moore Cross, Benjamin Mazar, Ruth Amiran, William Dever, Yigael Yadin, Avraham Biran, Moshe Dothan, Trude Dothan, Ephraim Stern, Amnon Ben-Tor, Elisha Linder, Seymour Gitin and Amihai Mazar.
