Josephine A. Verduci, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Melbourne, is this year’s winner of the Sean W. Dever Memorial Prize. Her paper, “A Feather in Your Cap: Symbols of Philistine Warrior Status,” was presented at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Schools of Oriental Research in Baltimore.
Verduci is a Ph.D. candidate in the Classics and Archaeology Department at the University of Melbourne. Her thesis, “Philistine Adornment and Cultural Intentions: Cross-Cultural Influences in the Eastern Mediterranean During the Early Iron Age,” conducted under the supervision of Dr. Louise Hitchcock, investigates the metal jewelry of the southern Levant, with particular focus on Philistine cultural expression.
The Sean W. Dever Prize was established in 2001 by Norma Dever and Professor William G. Dever, in memory of their son Sean.
