Dr. Katharina Galor (Brown University) and Dr. Jürgen Zangenberg (Leiden University) reflected on the situation in the introduction to their recent book with Jean-Baptiste Humbert, The Site of the Dead Sea Scrolls: Archaeological Interpretations and Debates (Brill, 2006):
Perhaps it is a good thing that for a certain time there is more controversy than consensus, more confusion than comfort. Even if an exchange of ideas with a scholar holding an opposing view is at times difficult, we should not cease dialogue. The deep differences in our approaches force all of us to reassess our own position.
