The Biblical Archaeology Society, publisher of Biblical Archaeology Review, has awarded the following prizes with stipends as indicated:
Joseph Aviram Fellowship
to support travel from Israel to the United States to present papers at scholarly conferences in the United States
Winner: Shlomit Bechar, doctoral student, Institute of Archaeology, Hebrew University, Jerusalem and Tel Hazor Excavation team, $2,500
Runner up: Ariel Winderbaum, Ph.D. candidate in archaeology at the Tel Aviv University and team member of Dr. Eilat Mazar’s excavation projects in the City of David and the Ophel, $1,500
Hershel Shanks Prize
in memory of Sami Rohr by his children, to support travel and research in the Talmudic period
Winner: Guy Darshan, Lady Davies post-doctoral Fellow, department of Bible, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, $2,500
Runner up: Dan Gill, emeritus of the Geological Survey of Israel, $1,500
