It is not clear from your advertisement for Bible Review whether Hershel Shanks is to be the editor of this new magazine. I’ll be very pleased if he is, since he’s done an excellent job with Biblical Archaeology Review [BAR]. I hope this praise will persuade him to forgive me for pointing out his one flaw: He shouldn’t write for the magazine himself. I hope he won’t do so in Bible Review. The distinct chip-on-the-shoulder tone of his writing has such an uncomfortable flavor that it detracts from the beauty and value of the rest of the magazine. I will let the enclosed check for a subscription to Bible Review convince him that I am as sincere in my praise as in my criticism.
