Scholarships Send Diggers Abroad - The BAS Library

This summer the trenches were once again filled with volunteers who traveled to the Middle East and Europe to participate in archaeological excavations. BAR offered scholarships of $1,000 each to 23 qualified volunteers who would not otherwise have been able to participate.

This year’s dig scholarship winners were chosen from a pool of nearly 60 applicants. This diverse group includes, among others, undergraduate students and Ph.D. candidates, a pastor and a social studies teacher, a Vietnam veteran and a man who returned to dig at Hazor after a 50-year absence. They were accepted to work at sites throughout Israel and Jordan, as well as Bulgaria.
