William G. Dever is a leading American archaeologist specializing in the ancient Near East. He is professor emeritus of Near Eastern archaeology and anthropology at the University of Arizona and served as director of the W.F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem from 1971 to 1975. Most famously, he led excavations at Tel Gezer for eight seasons. His many books and articles include Did God Have a Wife? Archaeology and Folk Religion in Ancient Israel, published in 2005.
William W. Hallo is the William M. Laffan Professor of Assyriology and Babylonian Literature Emeritus at Yale University. He served as curator of the Yale Babylonian Collection until his retirement in 2002. He has authored or edited countless books, including the three-volume series The Context of Scripture (1997–2002).
