Endnote 1 – Glossary
All scrolls from Qumran are numbered. For biblical texts, the first number is the cave in which they were found (1–11); this is followed by Q, for Qumran, then the biblical book in abbreviated form and a superscript letter, which differentiates between different manuscripts from the same cave of the same work. Thus 1QIsaa is the first manuscript (a) of Isaiah (Isa) from Cave 1 at Qumran (1Q).
