Endnote 28 – Jewish Monotheism and Christian Theology

The conclusion of Marinus de Jonge (“Monotheism and Christology,” in Early Christian Thought in Its Jewish Context, ed. John Barclay and John Sweet [Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press, 1996]) that Jesus’ relationship to the Father in the Gospel of John “did not in any way lead to his deification” is difficult to justify.
