Arthur Darby Nock, “Early Gentile Christianity and its Hellenistic Background,” in A.E.J. Rawlinson, ed., Essays on the Trinity and the Incarnation (London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1928), reprinted in 1964 together with two later essays by Nock as Early Gentile Christianity and Its Hellenistic Background (New York: Harper & Row, 1964). Nock (1902–1963) had a phenomenal command of the ancient sources that will probably never be replicated by another historian of Greco-Roman religions.
