Endnote 4 – The Disputed North Wall: Can We Settle the Argument by Excavation?

The Christian pilgrim Eucherius, writing in about 440 C.E., informs us that “the walls (of the Temple) were destroyed (by the Romans) to their foundations” (Eucherius, Letter to Faustus [De Situ] 7, trans. John Wilkinson, Jerusalem Pilgrims Before the Crusades [Warminster: Aris and Phillips, 1977], p. 53).
