Endnote 9 – Sources for a Life of Jesus

The relationship between Thomas and the Synoptic Gospels is, understandably, a hotly debated topic. The views presented here are my own, and they are argued in full in my book The Gospel of Thomas and Jesus (Sonoma, CA: Polebridge, 1993). North American scholars have tended to embrace this position; European scholars have tended to view Thomas as dependent upon the Synoptic Gospels.
