Footnote 1 – BARlines
Without contacting us to attempt to settle the matter amicably, Elisha Qimron, a professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva, sued BAR for copyright infringement for publishing a photocopy of a 120-line transcription of a Dead Sea Scroll text that had previously appeared in a Polish journal. The lawsuit, including legal fees, has cost BAR more than $100,000. See “Paying the Price for Freeing the Scrolls,” BAR 19:04.
