Limmus were officials appointed to oversee New Year’s activities in Assyria and years were named by the limmu serving that year. Lists have survived that give the order of the limmus, one of which is associated with a solar eclipse. Reference to this event allows historians to establish precise dares for the ninth through seventh centuries B.C. in Assyria.
