The King’s Highway (Numbers 20:17, 21:22) was the road running south from Damascus through Transjordan, and affording access to the central hill country through ancient roads at the Adama ford of the Jordan River and up the Wadi Far‘a. From Damascus, caravan trade could be conducted with the hydraulic civilizations of the Euphrates and Tigris.
