This 12th-century B.C. bronze seal is the only example of Bronze Age writing from Troy. The text, containing the names of a scribe and a woman (probably his wife), is in Luwian hieroglyphics, a script closely related to one used by the Hittites of central Anatolia. This and other evidence suggest that the inhabitants of Troy VI were of Anatolian origin, not Greek, as many had assumed.
