Also found in the shrine at Idalion were stones (shown here, compare with photo of tree planter) used as mortars (the round stone with the hole in it) and pestles (the oblong stones). On the stones excavators found bits of jarosite, a yellow sulfurous compound that is a by-product of copper smelting. The activities in this shrine included the smelting and hammering of copper.
