In another Selime church, the Dervis Akin Kilise, a fresco depicting the Virgin and Child (shown here) appears in a niche above a small grave in the church’s narthex, or entrance hall. The Virgin’s right hand rests on the head of a third, smaller, female figure—probably a depiction of the church’s donor and the person buried in the narthex grave.
