In this relief, carved out of brown quartzite, Hatshepsut presents the obelisks to the god Amun (compare with photo of obelisk). The quarrying and transportation of these massive structures, no easy accomplishment in ancient times, is thought to have commemorated Hatshepsut’s sed-festival, in which the renewal of her kingship was ritually celebrated.
