In 1918 the British general Edmund Allenby (see photo of British general Edmund Allenby) captured Turkish-controlled Mediggo, in modern Israel, by making a daring raid up a narrow pass. In 1479 B.C., Pharaoh Thutmose III (whose statue in the Luxor museum is shown here) took Canaanite Megiddo—following exactly the same route. We now know this was no coincidence.
